What is the ROT deduction for electrical work?

The ROT deduction (Repair, Rebuilding, Extension) is a tax reduction that gives you as a private individual the right to deduct 30% of the labor cost when you hire a registered electrical installation company to perform work in your home. You can deduct up to 50,000 SEK per person and year.

Calculation Example: Replacing Electrical Panel

Here is a typical example of what the invoice looks like when you use the ROT deduction for a medium-sized job.

When can you use the ROT deduction?

Eligible for ROT

  • Installing three-phase
  • Replacing electrical panel
  • Rewiring during renovation
  • Installing RCD
  • Routing electricity to guest house
  • Installing network cables

NOT eligible for ROT

  • Electrical installation in completely newly built house (< 5 years)
  • Repair of white goods (washing machine, fridge)
  • Cost of material or equipment
  • Only troubleshooting (without action)
